TWO athletes representing the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) took home two gold medals each in elementary aero gymnastics in the Palarong Panlalawigan in Negros Occidental.

Amanda Ray Rosco of Bacolod Tay Tung High School captured her first gold medal in the individual women’s while Justin Clyde Cababan of St. Scholastica’s Academy topped the individual men’s on Tuesday.

Rosco and Cababan then teamed up with Micaela Manaloto to win the trio gold medal. James Vincent Arroyo of St. Scholastica’s Academy, meanwhile, bagged a gold medal in secondary individual.

Meanwhile, Franz Bintad of Tay Tung bagged a gold medal in secondary girls’ discus throw after tallying 36.40m while schoolmate Bea Delotavo settled for bronze in 100m hurdles.

In secondary girls’ volleyball, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts barged to the semifinals round after sweeping their last two group matches against Area 1 and Area 10 at the Negros Occidental Multipurpose Activity Center.

The defending champion – led by Marianne Sotomil, Shane Carmona and Alyssa Bertolado – was playing Area 2 (Talisay) in the crossover semifinals as of press time.

“So far, so good for our secondary girls volleyball team but we need to keep our focus since we are still two wins away from defending our title,” said Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice president for sports.

Other Thunderbolts members were Joan Monares, Joan Doguna, Beatrice Decena, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat, Kiesha Bedonia, Rhean Almendralejo, and Erika Deloria.

The team first defeated Area 5 (25-11, 25-12) and then Area 9 of Negros Occidental High School (25-15, 25-15) on Monday.

“We cannot take this tournament for granted,” said Montalbo. “Other teams were looking to beat us so I told the players to prepare well.”

Thunderbolts was grouped in Bracket B alongside Area 1 (San Carlos and Escalante cities and Calatrava and Toboso towns), Area 10, Area 5, and Area 9.

In secondary boys’ football on Monday, Area 6 (Kabankalan City) blanked Area 5 (La Castellana) at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos football field.

San Carlos City’s Area 1, meanwhile, defeated Bacolod City (Area 7) 3-0 while Area 3 (Victorias, Silay and Talisay cities and EB Magalona and Murcia towns) edged Area 2 (Sagay and Cadiz cities and Manapla town) 3-0./PN
