ILOILO – To finance 13 proposed agro-forestry support facilities (ASFs) that will benefit three towns in the Jalaur River Basin, the provincial government is eyeing to access a P90.9-million fund from the Forestland Management Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The recipients are the municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao and Janiuay.

DENR Iloilo Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Raul Lorilla reported that of the 13 ASFs, nine proposed projects worth P75.9 million have been validated.

Of the nine, six ASFs worth P39.8 million have their detailed engineering designs and program of works ready for deliberation and approval.

This year, Lorilla said, the construction of a pathway worth P19.5-million from Barangay Jayubo going to Barangay Cabatangan in Janiuay has been approved.

Next year, the following have been calendared for implementation:

  • construction of Caratagan-Maradig Pathway – P5.5-million

  • construction of Binolusan Pequeno Pathway – P3.2-million

  • construction of Caratagan-Aglonok Pathway – P5.5-million

  • construction of Aglonok Hanging Bridge – P2.4-million

  • construction of Hilwan Hanging Bridge – P3.3-million

Forester Antonio Latoza Jr. said Iloilo can still submit additional project proposals to consume the remaining funds.

The eligible facilities include 26.5 km farm-to-market roads, 22.8 km pathways, five hanging bridges, nine reinforced concrete bridged and 93 km irrigation pipeline systems.

Lorilla said the other pending proposals must have geotechnical assessment, detailed engineering designs and program of works to access the fund.

Prior to the conduct of geotechnical assessment, access roads must be built for the heavy equipment to pass through, especially in proposed project sites in Calinog and Lambunao.

Lorilla said they already requested the assistance of the Engineering Brigade of the Philippine Army based in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental to help build these access roads.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. instructed Provincial Engineer Gracianito Lucero to process the release of funds required for the mobilization of heavy equipment and other machineries needed by the army. (Jezza Nepomoceno, Capitol News/PN)
