ILOILO – A Bacolod City-based private plane “collapsed” at the runway of the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan town yesterday.
The RPC 2791 Bonanza 36 flown by Captain Richard Zayco was landing around 11:15 a.m. when it encountered a landing gear malfunction, causing its propeller to strike the runway, according to Diego Eric Abecendario, chief of the airport power control.
Zayco and his three passengers were unhurt. The flight captain then called airport firefighters for help.
Abecendario said they immediately notified the airmen that the runway was closed due to a disabled aircraft.
The incident prompted the Iloilo Airport to divert two Iloilo-bound flights — one from Manila and another from Puerto Princesa — to Mactan, Abecendario said.
Operations returned to normal around 12:35 p.m.
“Indi lang ako makahatag sang full details,” Abecendario told Panay News. “Our aircraft investigator ang ma-investigate kon ano gid ang cause.”
Aviation personnel from Manila will investigate the incident, too, he said./PN
