MANILA – From the 43 neophytes selected during the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft in October, only 21 made it to the opening day lineup of the 2017-2018 PBA Philippine Cup.
GlobalPort Batang Pier will be parading with the most number of rookies – Lervin Flores, Joseph Gabayni, Julian Sargent, and Michael Juico – when the new season starts tomorrow.
Blackwater Elite, meanwhile, has three rookies in Negrense Raymar Jose, Kyle Neypes and Emil Palma.
TNT KaTropa also had three newcomers in its roster – Mark Tallo, Monbert Arong and Sidney Onwubere.
Having two rookies each are Alaska Aces (Jeron Teng and Davon Potts), San Miguel Beermen (Louie Vigil and Christian Standhardinger) and Kia Picanto (Jon Jon Gabriel and Roldan Sara).
Teams which have one rookie are NLEX Road Warriors (Kiefer Ravena), Magnolia Hotshots (Robbie Herndon), Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings (Jett Manuel), Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (Rey Nambatac), and Phoenix Fuel Masters (Jason Perkins).
Also considered as rookies this season are Picanto’s Jan Jamon and Fuel Masters’ Jamieson Cortes but they were selected during the previous PBA Rookie Draft.
Meanwhile, 18 PBA veterans will also be suiting up for new teams this season led by Rommel Nino Canaleta, Marnel Baracael, Jason Ballesteros, and Nico Salva, who were now with Meralco Bolts.
Ilonggo Ronald Tubid, Jay-R Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy, and Dylan Ababou are now with Picanto.
Nico Elorde, Kelly Nabong and Yousef Taha will now be playing for Batang Pier.
Also donning new jerseys are Fuel Masters’ Justin Chua, Rey Guevarra and LA Revilla, Ronjay Buenafe and Michael Miranda of Road Warriors; Billy Mamaril and Chico Lanete of Beermen; Ronald Pascual of Aces; and Mike Cortez of Elite./PN
