MANILA – Parents of slain teenager Reynaldo de Guzman on Wednesday said they are confident the one they buried was their son even though a DNA test by the Philippine National Police (PNP) said otherwise.
Speaking with the press before his son was taken to the Pasig Public Cemetery, Eduardo Gabriel de Guzman said he is sure it was his son who was found with 30 stab wounds in Nueva Ecija province last week.
“Anak ko ho talaga iyan. Ako ho nagpalaki diyan. Lahat ng palatandaan nandiyan. Anak ko iyan,” said the father. “Naniniwala po ako na anak ko iyang ililibing namin ngayon.”
The mother Lina also said she is certain the body – which had a scar from a syringe wound on the neck and a wart on the feet, among other identifying marks – was her son’s.
“Amin talaga iyan. Dugo’t laman namin iyan. Ako ang nagluwa diyan. Malaking hirap ko diyan. Anak ko iyan,” Lina said. “Bukod doon sa palatandaan niya, kamukhang-kamukha siya ni Eduardo.”
On Monday, the PNP said DNA from the body found in Nueva Ecija did not match with samples from Eduardo Gabriel and Lina.
The body was found on Sept. 5 at the Kinamatayang Kabayo Creek in Barangay San Roque, Gapan town. Eduardo Gabriel and Lina identified it as their son’s based on a wart on the left knee and a birthmark on the neck.
De Guzman, 14, went missing on Aug. 18 along with another slain teenager, Carl Angelo Arnaiz, after going out for midnight snacks in their neighborhood in Cainta, Rizal./PN
