BACOLOD City – Task Group Bacolod was finalizing security plans for the Asean Summit meetings in this city.

Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, task group head, presided the contingency meeting yesterday at Social Hall of the Negros Occidental provincial capitol.

“The plans were being refined,” Gumban said at the sidelines of the meeting attended by members of the 2017 Asean National Organizing Committee (NOC).

Bacolod will host the Asean Senior Officials Meeting, Joint Consultative Meeting, and Other Related Meetings on March 14 to 16 and the 15th Senior Officials Responsible for Information on March 21 to 23.

About 160 delegates were expected to arrive for the meetings.

Gumban, regional police director, estimated that more than 1,000 police officers will be deployed, but actual deployment will depend on the need.

He said officers from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental police offices will augment regional office forces.

Simulation exercises with NOC members will be held by the end of February and on the second week of March.

Task Group Bacolod was tasked to lead preparations for the meetings.

It comprises 21 national government agencies, including the departments of the Interior and Local Government, Tourism, and Health, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection. (PNA)
