MANILA – While other players don’t want to talk about their final collegiate game, De La Salle University Green Archers star guard Jeron Teng wants it to happen as soon as possible.
With the UAAP Season 79 men’s seniors’ basketball championship on the line, Teng said he doesn’t mind ending his career with the Green Archers on Wednesday and cutting the finals series short of another faceoff on Saturday.
“Gusto ko na talaga last game ko na. Ayaw ko ko na magka-two games,” said the fifth year guard Teng, who is eyeing his second UAAP championship after leading the Green Archers to a title run in 2013.
“Medyo funny yun na parang ironic na gusto ko na matapos ang collegiate career ko kasi kung ‘yung iba (player) ayaw na napag uusapan yan, pero we just wanna end it on Wednesday,” he added.
The 22-year-old Teng was instrumental in Green Archers’ 67-65 win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in Game 1 when he scored the marginal layup with just 15 ticks remaining in the game.
He also made his presence felt on the other end of the floor when he swatted away the shot attempt of Blue Eagles guard Aaron Black to seal the championship series-opener win.
“It’s my last year. I’m cherishing every game, which is why I’m doing my best every game,” said the former UAAP Rookie of the Year awardee. “I just want to leave DLSU with a crown.”
“But we have to play better (if we want to end the series),” Teng added. “We just had to stay together and stay composed we know yung kalaban namin will make runs (to force Game 3).”/PN
