ILOILO City — The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Walang Gutom Program (WGP) has generated more than ₱20.8 million in gross sales for community-based livelihood groups in Iloilo during the first half of 2026, underscoring the program’s growing role not only in addressing food insecurity but also in creating sustainable income opportunities for thousands of families.
Data from the DSWD showed that 38 Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) earned a combined ₱20,815,500 through food redemption activities conducted in municipalities and the component city of Iloilo Province, serving 6,939 beneficiaries under the Walang Gutom Program.
The participating associations supplied a wide range of food products, including rice, bread, poultry, meat, vegetables, fruits, and cooking oil, helping improve local food security while stimulating rural economies.
The livelihood enterprises are supported through the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which provides funding and other resources to help organized community groups establish and expand income-generating ventures.
Beyond financial assistance, DSWD continues to provide technical assistance, capacity-building interventions, mentoring, and linkages with other government agencies and institutions to strengthen the associations’ microenterprises and ensure their long-term sustainability.
Members of the SLPAs have also undergone training in enterprise development and financial management to help them become responsible and competitive entrepreneurs while improving their ability to collaborate with government partners.
According to the DSWD, the success of the program reflects the dedication of the SLPA members and their Project Development Officers, who worked together to meet accreditation requirements as merchants and retailers under the Walang Gutom Program.
The agency said the achievement demonstrates how the Sustainable Livelihood Program contributes to inclusive economic growth by empowering communities while helping ensure food access for vulnerable families.
With continued government support and stronger community partnerships, the DSWD expects the program to create more livelihood opportunities and further improve the economic resilience of families across Iloilo Province./PN
