BACOLOD City – One man died and two others were injured due to electrocution in Purok 1, Barangay Nabali-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental around 8:25 a.m. on July 10.
The victims, all residents of the village’s Purok 4, were identified as aliases “Jade,” 26; “Kent,” 43; and “Kim,” 18.
According to Police Lieutenant Peter Genova, deputy chief of the Himamaylan Component City Police Station (CCPS), the three men were instructed by the barangay captain to transfer a steel post for the installation of a solar-powered streetlight — part of an ongoing barangay project.
While moving the post, they reportedly failed to notice a live wire connected to the primary power line of the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, resulting in the electrocution of all three individuals.
The victims were rushed to the Gov. Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in the city, but Jade was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Genova said the barangay captain has since pledged to cover all medical and funeral expenses, acknowledging responsibility for the tragic incident./PN
