He said focus and peace of mind were his keys to taking the board exam.

Kag siempre prayers gid ya kag thankful gid ako kay Lord nga ginhatag ya ang ginpangamuyo ko sa iya eversince nga nag-umpisa ako sa journey ko,” Araneta said in an interview with DYRI RMN Iloilo on Tuesday morning.

He is a native of Barangay Poblacion, Anilao, Iloilo, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries degree as cum laude.

Daku gid ang bulig sang akon family, especially sang akon mother, kay actually daw ma-consider ko si mama nga stage mom kay sang adlaw sang board exam nag-stay gid sia sa akon kay naglain ang akon pamatyag,” Araneta added.

He admitted taking the course with difficulty because of the comprehensive lecture coverage, including four major subjects: aquaculture, capture fisheries, aquatic resources and ecology, and post-harvest fisheries.

Araneta explained the course doesn’t necessarily only include the management of punongan, or aquaculture, but also includes the capture fisheries, particularly the management of the stocks or fisheries in the waters, and post-harvest fisheries.

Siempre ang isda is highly perishable, so dira naman masulod ang pagproseso sang aton isda into other products nga maka-extend sang ila shelf life,” he explained.

On the other hand, Dr. Nordy Siason, ISUFST president, also expressed his pride in their students.

Daku ini nga kadalag-an man sa bilog nga community sang Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology. And I would like to thank also ang aton faculty dira sa College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences sa ISUFST,” Siason said.

He added that ISUFST offers quality education by hiring quality teachers, so students do not need to go to other schools to learn about fisheries.

Siason noted the multitude of opportunities that await fisheries professionals, especially in the blue economy or economic activities associated with the oceans and seas.

Aside from working with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, they may also work with local government units and private industries, among others./PN
