BORACAY – Eleven establishments in this island resort will face closure if they fail to properly manage their wastewater.
The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) inventoried around 180 establishments from July to October.
Eleven of them were found to have a sewerage system not connected to the existing sewer line in the island.
Their wastewater goes directly to drainage canals, said Jim Sampulna, regional director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The EMB is an attached agency of the DENR.
Among them were Jet Store and Sol Y Sombra but these already complied with requirements as of press time.
Andok’s Restaurant and Shore Time have committed to comply and were subject to monitoring, the Environment department said.
Lugar Bonito Hotel, Metropolitan Doctors Medical Clinic, Mini Stop or UYPH Retail, Korean Restaurant, Boracay Island Adventure, Casa Asia, Cocomangas Bar were awaiting a technical conference.
Establishments that failed to connect to the sewer line will face the cancellation of their environmental compliance certificate, Sampulna said on Tuesday.
The Department of Tourism would also cancel their accreditation while the local government of Malay would do the same with their business permit, he added.
Sampulna said the EMB was not yet done with the inventory but will concentrate on the 11 violators for now. (PNA)
