ILOILO City – Congressmen who are part of the 11-day nautical highway expedition reached Iloilo yesterday.

The team was led by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. With him were 15 congressmen including the chairmen of the committees on transportation and appropriation.

The undersecretaries and assistant secretaries of the Department of Transportation were also with the congressmen. They inspected the port in Caticlan, Aklan before proceeding to Iloilo.

According to Iloilo City’s Cong. Jerry Treñas, the team inspected the roll-on roll-off nautical highway to see what concerns needed funding.

“Ila tuyo magtan-aw kon paano ang lakat sang aton nautical highway. After sang inspection, mahatag sila sang ila report nga amo base sang aton mga proposals for budget,” said Treñas.

“Mahulat kita sang report nila kay ini sila gid ya mismo nag-agi, indi lang ya nga basi lang sa report. Ang deficiency nga makita nila, pangitaan nila paagi nga pasudlon sa budget,” the congressman explained.

After Iloilo, the team will proceed to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The roads and ports that linked the islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were a project of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, now congresswoman of Pampanga./PN
