117 Guimaras junkies complete rehabilitation

ILOILO City – One hundred seventeen drug surrenderers in the province of Guimaras completed a community-based rehabilitation program on Sept. 21.

They were all from the town of Buenavista, said Senior Superintendent Julio Gustilo, Guimaras police director.

Forty-eight more would be “graduating” next month, said Gustilo.

Since 2016, Guimaras saw the voluntary surrender of 747 drug personalities.

The rural health units of five municipalities – Jordan, Nueva Valencia, Buenavista, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag – offered free rehabilitation in coordination with the Department of Health.

Gustilo hopes that before this year ends, all the 747 drug surrenderers would have successfully completed their rehabilitation and thus eligible to receive further assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The provincial government allotted P1.8 million for the drug rehabilitation program.

Gustilo also expressed confidence that all 98 barangays in Guimaras would be declared drug cleared.

He urged municipal police chiefs to exert more effort to monitor new drug pushers in their respective areas./PN
