ILOILO – Thousands of households and businesses across several Iloilo towns face up to 12 hours without electricity this Sunday, August 23, as Iloilo II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO II) undertakes major works on its power distribution system.
ILECO II advised its member-consumer-owners (MCOs) to prepare for the prolonged outage, which will affect areas in at least nine municipalities and several barangays.
The electric cooperative said the interruption is necessary for the commissioning of a capacitor bank as well as pole relocation and right-of-way clearing along the Naslo-Janiuay 69-kilovolt line.
For the capacitor bank commissioning, power will be cut from 6:01 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Pototan, Dingle, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, New Lucena, Zarraga, and Dueñas.
Portions of Barangays Balangigan and Bugtungan will also be affected by the scheduled interruption.
Meanwhile, a longer outage from 6:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. will affect Janiuay, Mina and Badiangan due to pole relocation and right-of-way clearing works.
Also covered by the nearly 12-hour interruption are Barangay Janipa-an Oeste in New Lucena; Barangay Subog in Maasin; and barangays Lumbo, Purog, Tumcon Ilaya and Guinacas in Pototan.
The scheduled works are expected to affect residential consumers as well as commercial establishments and other facilities relying on electricity throughout the affected areas.
ILECO II said electricity may be restored earlier than the announced schedule once the work is completed.
“Power will be restored upon completion of work without prior notice,” the cooperative advised.
Consumers were urged to charge mobile phones, power banks and other essential electronic devices before the scheduled outage and make necessary preparations for the prolonged loss of electricity.
The cooperative also reminded consumers to treat power lines as energized at all times because electricity could be restored before the announced end of the interruption.
The scheduled maintenance comes as ILECO II continues work on facilities intended to maintain the reliability and efficiency of electricity distribution within its franchise area./PN
