MANILA – China’s envoy to the Philippines said on Monday more than a dozen flagship infrastructure projects are in the pipeline to be completed in the next few years as he vowed continuous support for the country’s “Build, Build, Build” program.
“We have 13 ongoing projects. Those are big projects mainly focusing on infrastructure,” Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian told reporters during a reception in Taguig City.
Huang said of the 13, seven projects are launched, received the process of implementation, and will be completed one after the other.
“The Chico River Pump Irrigation, New Centennial Water Source Kaliwa Dam and the Philippine National Railway’s South Long Haul are being pushed forward in a steady pace, and will contribute to the development of agriculture and transportation in the Philippines,” he added.
Huang said China has provided RMB 2.75 billion (around $398 million) of grants and close to $500 million of soft loans to the Philippines to support its “Build, Build, Build” plan.
Another RMB 3 billion (around $421 million) of the grant will be further provided from 2019-2022, he said.
“Now all together, 10 projects have been completed, bringing tangible benefits to local people,” he added. (PNA)
