159 city hall employees positive for COVID-19 since May 1

ILOILO City – A total of 159 city government employees were found positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) since May 1.

Of the figure, 133 were the result of the city government’s mass testing which started May 24. The 26 others were detected prior to the mass testing.

Data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed that on May 25, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test (swab taken a day before) yielded 11 positive results; 37 on May 26; 18 on May 27; 22 on May 28; and 45 on May 29.

To recall, the mass testing was conducted following the infection of 26 employees from May 1 to 22. This also prompted Mayor Jerry Treñas to close the entire city hall for a week.

City hall reopens today but only employees who have negative results can go back to work.

Also, it would only accept a volume of transacting people 30 percent of its maximum capacity./PN
