ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and Iloilo City Task Force on Street Children distributed educational assistance to 162 indigent children beneficiaries on Dec. 27, 2023 at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand.

A total of P834,000 was allotted for the following beneficiaries:

* 49 elementary students

* 71 high school students

* 35 college students

* seven Huwaran ng mga Anak awardees

According to CSWDO head Teresa Gelogo, elementary and high school student beneficiaries received P5,200 each while college student recipients got P5,000 each per semester. The Huwaran ng mga Anak awardees were also granted P5,000 each.

Started in 2002, the distribution of educational assistance to indigent students in the city has helped a lot of children with their education over the years.

Gelogo said beneficiaries were chosen based on their socio-economic status. She added that one of the requirements for the continued educational aid is the maintaining grade of 80.

“Eighty lang (maintaining grade) pero kung nubo-nubo sa 80 kag nakita naton nga may ara sila handum nga makatapos, gina-consider man naton,” the CSWDO head added./PN
