ILOILO City – Police arrested 18 suspected illegal fishers in the sea waters of Barangay Asluman, Carles, Iloilo on Sunday, June 8.
According to Major Sonny Boy Garnace, chief of the Carles Municipal Police Station, the suspects were caught aboard three fishing vessels – F/B Nanay Felisen, F/B Christian 2, and F/B Christian 3 – engaged in trawl fishing.
They were arrested for violations of Sections 87 and 95 of Municipal Ordinance No. 2019-03 on illegal fishing, Garnace said.
Recovered were approximately 90 kilograms of illegally caught fish with an estimated value of P12,000.
The fishermen, however, were released the same day after paying the fine for their violation.
“We released the fishermen after nagbayad ng fine. We are warning them na huwag mangisda malapit sa shoreline kasi may municipal ordinance tayo,” he added./PN
