CAPIZ – Nineteen centenarians from various municipalities in Capiz were recognized by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) in Western Visayas and each received a P100,000 cash gift in recognition of reaching 100 years of age or older.

The recognition forms part of the NCSC’s continuing program honoring Filipinos who have reached the milestone age of 100.

NCSC Region 6 Director Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon said she personally met 17 of the 19 centenarians during visits from July 15 to 17.

The recipients included two centenarians from Dao, one from Dumalag, two from Maayon, three from Mambusao, two from Pilar, four from Pontevedra, two from Roxas City, and one from Tapaz.

The remaining two recipients, both from Panitan, also received their cash gifts through NCSC Region 6 personnel.

Ganzon expressed admiration for the centenarians, describing them as sources of inspiration.

“Each one carries a lifetime of wisdom, strength, and joy. I was so privileged to personally meet 17 out of the 19 living centenarian lolos and lolas from different municipalities across Capiz. Thank you for inspiring us to live well, love well, and age well,” she said.

The NCSC said the program recognizes the invaluable contributions of senior citizens and underscores the importance of respecting and promoting the welfare of older Filipinos.

Beyond the financial assistance, the recognition also celebrated the centenarians’ resilience, life experiences, and enduring contributions to their families and communities./PN
