ILOILO – At least 19 people were arrested on Friday night in Barangay Pasil, New Lucena, Iloilo for illegal gambling.
The arrested persons include two suspected operators identified as Nora Teodoro, 51, of Barangay Anabo, Lemery, Iloilo and Aron Besidillas, 19, of Barangay Imbaulan, Lemery.
They were caught at around 10:15 p.m. in the act of engaging in color and card games.
According to New Lucena police chief Captain Ryan Orleans, they received information that illegal gambling exists in the area.
“The operators failed to show a permit from the municipality to operate, which is why we arrested them for illegal gambling. Basta may money involved illegal gambling na ina,” Orleans told Panay News.
Recovered during the operation were a funnel, four betting boards with print cards, a bamboo stick with a ring, one betting main card, and different denominations of money with a total amount of P1,893.
All arrested persons were detained in New Lucena Police Station as they faced charges under Republic Act 9287.
To recall, Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky emphasized when he assumed office that his main thrusts were the campaign against illegal gambling and illegal drugs.
Wanky warned his men as well not to be involved in any illegal activities and to observe the “no-take policy.”/PN
