2 Cabinet members face corruption probe

MANILA – The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) will look into alleged corruption involving two incumbent Cabinet Secretaries.

PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica said on Wednesday that the investigation on two officials started in February this year and is expected to be completed by October.

“They are responsive in the investigation,” Belgica said. “The investigation is close to wrapping up then we will submit it to the President.”

“One of the complaints was filed by an official from the Cabinet member’s department while the other case was lodged by a private citizen,” he added.

Since assuming the presidency in 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte has fired several government officials over allegations of graft and corruption while in office as he repeatedly threatened to sack officials even on a “whiff” of corruption.

But President Duterte was also being criticized for “recycling” people he had sacked by reappointing them to other government posts./PN
