ANTIQUE – Two men were killed while two others were wounded in a stabbing incident in Barangay Supa, San Jose de Buenavista town on Sunday evening, May 12.
The 43-year-old Ernesto Lumingob, a native of Barangay Disob, Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte, and 25-year-old Jerson Casinillo of Barangay Del Carmen, Uson, Masbate sustained multiple stab wounds on different parts of their bodies.
Police said they were declared dead on arrival at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH).
The two other construction workers who were wounded – Anthony Joy Lamila, 33, of Barangay Jayubo, Lambunao, Iloilo, and Dante Lumingob, 23, of Barangay Disod, Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte – were still being treated at the same hospital.
San Jose de Buenavista police identified the suspect as the victims’ fellow worker, Bryan Cañete, a resident of Barangay Balogo, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Investigation revealed that the incident took place at the barracks of the construction workers near the under construction new government center of the Antique provincial government.
Police said the suspect first stabbed Lamila, who was at the comfort room, several times on different parts of the body.
Despite this, Lamila managed to shout for help. D. Lumingob and E. Lumingob immediately responded but they, too, were attacked by the suspect.
At around 1:17 a.m. yesterday, other construction workers found Casinillo lying beside the barracks with multiple stab wounds.
In an interview yesterday with Police Major Geremy Ian Magbanua, chief of the San Jose de Buenavista police station, he said the suspect was allegedly suffering from depression.
San Jose de Buenavista police launched a hot pursuit operation against the suspect who fled after the incident./PN
