ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. reappointed two Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) directors whose terms of office were ending this Dec. 31.
Atty. Juanito Acanto was representing the professional sector in the Board while Dr. Jessica Salas was from the women’s sector.
Defensor swore in the two directors and signed their appointment papers yesterday morning.
“They’re competent, dedicated, hardworking, and persons of integrity. What else can I say? They deserve a new mandate,” said Defensor.
MIWD serves Iloilo City and seven municipalities in Iloilo province.
Salas and Acanto will serve six more years at the MIWD Board beginning January next year.
Defensor appointed them to the Board in January 2015. They replaced Engr. Adrian Moncada and Bernadette Castellano.
Salas said one of their accomplishments was the joint venture agreement with Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corp. to stabilize MIWD’s supply.
“We also addressed a lot of internal problems involving employees,” added Salas.
Acanto said their reappointment gave them a new opportunity to prove to the governor and people of Iloilo that they are capable of further improving MIWD.
“To start with, we have just concluded an agreement. The Pangilinan group of companies invested something like P1.2 billion. We are in the process of finalizing a second agreement to distribute water and reduce losses,” Acanto said.
Salas said the MIWD Board f Directors will continue working as a team.
“We worked well these past two years. We were able to tackle problems. They were not small problems but we were able to find solutions. We hope to continue working in that manner,” said Salas./PN
