2 more eye Capiz gubernatorial post

By RALPH JOHN MIJARES

ROXAS City — Aside from Vice Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras II, two more political figures in Capiz may run for governor in 2016.

One of them is Contreras’ fellow in the Liberal Party: Mayor Gideon “Ike” Patricio of the municipality of Pilar.

“I want to serve the whole province” if the ruling party allows him, Patricio said.

Businessman Joel Longares is also gunning for the top government position in Capiz.

He said he will run for governor in the 2016 national elections “with or without a political party.”

In fact, said Longares, running as an independent candidate is better because he would not owe anyone a debt of gratitude.

The businessman said he will be running “for the people of Capiz.”

In the May 13, 2013, mid-term elections, Longares ran for the same position against Gov. Victor Tanco Sr., then seeking reelection, but lost.

Tanco is now serving his last term./PN
