2% of Aklanons fully vaccinated vs COVID

KALIBO, Aklan – A total of 13,998 residents of Aklan, as of July 11, received their second dose of the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), making they fully vaccinated against the illness. They represented just over two percent of the province’s population.

On the other hand, 32,592 Aklanons at least 18 years old received their first dose.

Aklan has received doses of CoronaVac (Sinovac), AstraZeneca, Gamaleya Sputnik V, and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

A total of 8,918 healthcare workers and frontliners (A1 priority group) completed their vaccination, while 11,385 received one of two doses.

As to persons with comorbidities (A3) 8.68 percent or 3,461 had received at least one dose, with 1.97 percent or 785 completing two doses.

On the other hand, 26.60 percent of people 60 years and older (A2) or 16,014 individuals had received their first dose as of July 7, and 7.13 percent or 4,295 having completed their vaccination.

For the A4 or economic front liners, the province administered first doses to 1,732 people (12.87 percent).

Boracay Island has also started vaccinating tourism and hospitality workers. It received 3,000 first doses of CoronaVac on July 3. A ceremonial vaccination was held on the island’s beachfront participated in by 10 representatives from various tourism workers’ associations accredited by the local government unit (LGU) of Malay, Aklan.

Target recipients were 2,178 workers of accommodation establishments, hotels and resorts, 308 employees in restaurants, 140 in tourist transport as well as 374 tour guides, boatmen, e-trike drivers, airport and seaport front liners, and aqua sport providers.

Foreign tourists will find a “fully-vaccinated island” attractive, according to Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores, thus all of this holiday resort’s residents and workers must be inoculated against COVID-19, he stressed./PN
