ILOILO City – Two police officers under the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) tested positive for illegal drug use.
They were among the 6,884 cops so far tested randomly after Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, PRO-6 director, decreed an intensified internal cleansing early in December last year.
The two officers assigned at the municipal police stations of Candoni and Cauayan in Negros Occidental were using methamphetamine hydrochloride, more commonly known as shabu.
Miranda declined to identify the policemen but said they had the ranks of Police Corporal and Police Master Sergeant.
While they may still undergo confirmatory test, Miranda already ordered their relief.
“I relieved them from their posts. Positive sila sa paggamit ng shabu,” Miranda told Panay News.
The cops, he said, may face charges of grave misconduct and could be dismissed from the service.
Miranda ordered the mandatory drug testing of over 13,000 cops across Western Visayas.
The drug tests were being administered by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office and supervised by the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division.
“This is to make sure that no PRO-6 personnel are involved in any drug activity either as user, pusher and drug protector,” Miranda stressed./PN
