BACOLOD City – Two New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in Barangay Singcang-Airport yesterday morning.

The insurgents, a live-in couple, were identified only by their aliases “Tal-tal” and “Karil.”

Tal-tal was the leader of the NPA’s Platoon 2 Sentro De Gabridad, South Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor of the Armando Sumayang Command.

He was recruited to the NPA when he was only 18 years old while participating in various protest actions. He later became an organizer of the youth underground movement Kabataang Makabayan.

“Karil”, meanwhile, was recruited in 2018 at the age of 17 and was assigned as Vice Finance of the rebel group.

She would then become a medic of Platoon 2, alongside Tal-tal’s unit.

Both decided to surrender due to alleged maltreatment carried out by their fellow comrades.

Their decision to surrender was made in 2020, but their initial plan had to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The couple are expected to receive financial assistance from the government./PN
