CAPIZ – Around 20 students of Jamindan National High School in Jamindan, Capiz were affected by a suspected case of mass hysteria Tuesday morning, August 4, following an altercation between two students inside the campus.
Police Maj. Jaypee Silvestre, officer-in-charge of the Jamindan Municipal Police Station, said the incident occurred at around 9:45 a.m.
Silvestre said the incident began after a fistfight between two minor students—a 14-year-old Grade 8 student and a 16-year-old Grade 9 student.
The confrontation reportedly triggered panic among several students, leading to what authorities described as a suspected case of mass hysteria.
Several students complained of dizziness and feeling unwell, while some reportedly lost consciousness.
School personnel, police officers, and emergency responders immediately provided medical assistance to the affected students, who were later brought to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
The two students involved in the altercation were taken to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Jamindan Municipal Police Station for appropriate intervention.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fight, and an investigation is ongoing.
Classes at Jamindan National High School were suspended following the incident to ensure the safety of students and allow school officials to address the situation.
