CAPIZ – A total of 2,195 Educational Financial Assistance Program (EFAP) scholars in Capiz have received an additional P2,500 in educational assistance under the Comprehensive Assistance Program for Identified Scholars (CAPIS) of the Provincial Government of Capiz.
The additional grant forms part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to strengthen educational support for young learners and help ease the rising cost of education across the province.
Previously, EFAP scholars received P2,500 per semester — an amount that, while helpful, was often insufficient to cover basic academic expenses. Recognizing this limitation, Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, in coordination with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) led by Vice Gov. James Magbanua, mobilized resources to provide supplementary funding.
The initiative effectively doubled the financial assistance received by each scholar this semester, increasing the total grant to P5,000.
Gov. Castro also acknowledged the contributions of former SP member Thea Faith Reyes, citing her instrumental role in advocating for increased educational assistance during her tenure. Despite no longer serving in the SP, Reyes’ efforts were credited for helping advance the expansion of the scholarship program.
Gov. Castro noted that Reyes’ active involvement and advocacy reflected her strong commitment to the educational welfare of scholars, adding that her experience and networks could help ensure the sustainability and future expansion of the CAPIS Scholarship Program.
Of the total number of beneficiaries, 1,186 EFAP scholars are from the 1st District, while 1,009 are from the 2nd District, highlighting the program’s broad reach across the province.
