27 WVMC employees infected

ILOILO City – Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district now has 27 employees infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – majority of whom were healthcare workers.

As of yesterday, seven of them were admitted at the hospital while the rest were either on home or facility quarantine, according to Dr. Stephanie Abello, chief pathologist of WVMC sub-national laboratory.

Most of the infected medical frontliners were asymptomatic, said Abello.

WVMC SNL REOPENS

The lockdown of the WVMC’s testing laboratory was lifted on Aug. 17.

But according to Abello, they are not yet on full operation.

“Because of our staffing pattern, we are not yet in full operation. May anum pa kami ka staff nga ara sa health facility,” said Abello.

Currently, the WVMC SNL has 3,446 specimens on process, 584 of which are backlogs.

Abello said they have processed around 900 to 1,000 specimens yesterday and they target to increase it to 1,500 today with the arrival of reagents in one of their automated extraction machine.

To recall, two new infections were recorded at the facility on Tuesday.
