ILOILO City – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has so far allowed 28 higher education institutions (HEIs) in Western Visayas to hold limited face-to-face classes.
These universities and colleges were issued with Certificates of Authority to conduct in-person classes on specific programs.
Nov. 2 last year, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) allowed limited in-person classes in areas under Alert Levels 1, 2 and 3 and on December 2021, CHED announced that interested HEIs under Alert Level 2 may apply for authorization for the expanded rollout.
Under the CHED and Department of Health (DOH) Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) 2021-004, schools seeking limited face-to-face classes must have:
* adequate ventilation
* table-chair layout that adheres to physical distancing
* visible and readable signages of health and safety reminders
* markings on the floor to direct one-way foot traffic
* hand washing stations
Among others, HEIs must also secure the informed consent of all participating students, passed the on-site inspection of the CHED Inspection Team on retrofitted facilities, and must have a system to ensure that only fully vaccinated teaching and non-teaching personnel, as well as students can enter the campus.
A concurrence or support from the local government units (LGUs) to conduct face-to-face classes is also required.
Region 6’s HEIs allowed to hold limited face-to-face classes and their covered programs are the following:
