CAPIZ – Across this province 282 prohibited boga or improvised hand-held cannon made of bamboo or PVC pipe have been confiscated as of Jan. 2.
Boga is a popular improvised noisemaker during the holidays prohibited under Executive Order (EO) 28 and Republic Act (RA) 7183, or An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices.
According to Police Major Ruby C. Magallanes, Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) information officer, other prohibited firecrackers were also seized.
Despite the confiscations, Magallanes said the province’s new year celebrations were generally peaceful. The CPPO had not recorded incidents of stray bullets or illegal discharge of firearms.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Fireworks Related Injuries (FWRI) case bulletin of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) logged five firecracker injuries from Dec. 21, 2022 to Jan. 1, 2023.
The figures were lower than the nine cases recorded during the same time period last year.
Two of the cases were from Ivisan; another two were from Panitan and one from Sigma.
Also, two of them incurred blast injuries caused by boga, one fountain, one triangle, and one unknown firecracker.
All the firecracker blast victims were treated in health facilities then sent home./PN
