ILOILO City – Some two thousand riders are expected to join the Grand Fun Ride today as participants of the 2017 Iloilo Bike Festival gather for a chance to go down in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest line of moving bicycles.
Festival executive director Dr. Ronald Raymund Sebastian shares that they are gunning to beat the previous record set in December last year by Dhaka, Bangladesh, which was joined by 1,186 cyclists.
The world record attempt will potentially see two thousand Ilonggo bikers form a single 10-kilometer chain of cyclists, running along the C1 Iloilo Circumferential Road. Various local cycling organizations have signed up to join the historic undertaking.
In preparation for the world record attempt, organizers of the bike fest conducted dry runs on Friday and Feb. 25.
The Iloilo bike fest opened on Tuesday with the unveiling of a bike exhibit and expo at SM City Iloilo. Various cycling-related events have also been mounted, building up to the potentially historic and world record-breaking climax today: the Grand Fun Ride.
