BACOLOD City – Three commissioned officers of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) were lauded for their pivotal roles in two major drug busts and the arrest of a high-profile fugitive in recent operations in the city.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr. and Police Lieutenant Richard Legada received commendations for leading a successful buy-bust operation on June 28 in Barangay Mansilingan, which resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the confiscation of 1,535 grams of suspected shabu valued at P10.4 million.
In a separate operation, Police Station 2, under the leadership of Police Major Eugene Tolentino, apprehended two drug suspects and seized 290 grams of suspected shabu worth P1.97 million during a June 25 undercover operation in Barangay 7.
The commendations were formally awarded during the kick-off ceremony of the 30th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month held on July 1 at the BCPO Parade Grounds. The ceremony was led by Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, BCPO city director.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, who served as the guest of honor and speaker, praised the BCPO for its unyielding efforts in maintaining peace and order, particularly its accomplishments in the intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, who also graced the event, emphasized the importance of police-community partnership in ensuring lasting peace and security.
Mayor Gasataya also recognized Police Station 6 for the apprehension of a regional most-wanted rape suspect through coordinated intelligence operations. Patrol Corporal Marthy Bugtong accepted the award on behalf of the unit.
“I want to show my respect, appreciation, and full support to the men and women working tirelessly to keep every Bacolodnon safe. That’s why, even before I officially assumed office yesterday, I voluntarily underwent a drug test to lead by example and demonstrate my sincerity in the fight against illegal drugs,” Gasataya said in his speech.
Following the awarding ceremony, the mayor convened his first command conference with BCPO officials, underscoring his commitment to public safety, crime prevention, and crisis response.
The event also featured a live-action operational readiness drill at the Bacolod City Public Plaza. BCPO personnel conducted a simulated crisis scenario showcasing rapid response strategies, including crowd control, emergency medical assistance, and coordinated tactical maneuvers.
The exercise, led by Col. Coronica, demonstrated the discipline and preparedness of Bacolod’s law enforcement units in handling high-pressure situations.
