3 fires in Iloilo City on Holy Wednesday

ILOILO City – A residential fire and two grass fires broke out in this city yesterday.

At around 1 p.m., a house was engulfed in flames, leaving it partially damaged, in Barangay Buntatala, Jaro district.

A grass fire hit a vacant lot in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district at around 3 p.m. and another followed in Barangay Tacas, Jaro.

According to the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), a man started to burn trash that caused the grass fire in Barangay San Rafael.

The BFP Region 6 has earlier said that public cooperation is imporatnt in maintaining clean surroundings to prevent grass and garbage fires.

It also ordered fire marshals in the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod to coordinate with local governments for dumpsite management, as rubbish fires can be resource-intensive and pose significant health hazards./PN
