BACOLOD City – Three Negrenses and three schools from Negros Occidental made it to the list of topnotchers and top-performing schools, respectively, in the 2025 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT).
According to results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on May 23, two examinees — Jacob Facultad of San Carlos City and Ma. Carmel Delada of E.B. Magalona — tied at fourth place in the secondary level with a rating of 93.20%.
Facultad was a graduate of Philippine Normal University-Visayas (PNU-V) in Cadiz City while Delada completed her studies at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU).
Another PNU-V graduate, Roxanne Ricaplaza of Cadiz City, also placed seventh, with a rating of 92.60%.
Three schools in Negros Occidental were also recognized among the top-performing institutions for the secondary level:
* PNU-Visayas – ranked first with a 100% passing rate
* Bacolod City College (BCC) – ranked fifth with a 93.14% passing rate
* CHMSU-Talisay Campus – ranked seventh with a 91.74% passing rate
Last year, PNU-V also topped the LEPT elementary level, with a 100% passing rate. Its alumna Tessh Balaod was among the topnotchers, ranking eighth.
PNU-V Executive Director Ralger Jocson expressed pride in the university’s consistent performance in the national board exams.
“PNU-V is true to its commitment to producing quality teachers. From the entrance exam to the interview, we are strict in selecting only the best and brightest applicants,” Jocson said. “Our education curriculum is designed to ensure that every student is teacher-ready.”
Cadiz City’s Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. also lauded PNU-V’s achievement.
“Being among the top-performing schools in the country — and having two topnotchers — is proof that Cadiz is truly a bastion of quality education,” he said. “Since its founding on July 15, 1968, PNU-V has consistently produced excellent teachers not only for Negros communities but for the entire nation.”
Topnotcher Ma. Carmel Delada credited her success to both hard work and faith.
“My success is 50 percent effort and 50 percent faith in God,” said the 2024 cum laude graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Science.
She also expressed gratitude for the support of her family, friends, and mentors at CHMSU.
CHMSU College of Education Dean Ophelia Duayan celebrated the university’s continued excellence.
“This is truly an honor for CHMSU. We are proud to consistently produce quality graduates from our pre-service teacher education programs,” she said.
In April, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) awarded CHMSU-Talisay Campus two Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (EQUATE) Awards for both elementary and secondary level teacher education programs./PN
