MANILA – Three Western Visayan players were named part of the Jr. NBA All-Star teams at the close of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2017 at the Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.

Among the eight Jr. NBA players chosen Sunday were John Lester Amagan of St. Robert’s International Academy in Iloilo City and Nathan Jundana of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Gin Kayla Huelar of University of St. La Salle – Bacolod was included in the eight-strong Jr. WNBA.

“Jr. NBA is a great learning experience. I learned a lot of things I can apply in my everyday life,” Jundana told Panay News. “I will cherish all that I have learned here.”

Others chosen for the Jr. NBA squad were Prince Alao of San Beda University, Ethan Alian of La Salle Greenhills, Seven Gagate of Chiang Kai Shek College, Christian Mesias of Jose Maria College of Davao, Kim Tamayo of National University, and Rhon Telles of St. Anthony de Carmelli Academy of Cavite.

Also chosen to be part of the Jr. WNBA were Madelyn Flores of Bukidnon National High School, Aishe Solis of Corpus Christi School in Cagayan de Oro, Pauline Valle of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, Christine Venterez of Baguio City National High School, Marielle Vingno of Escuela de Sophia of Caloocan, Inc., and Amber Esquivel and Kyla Mataga of De La Salle Zobel.

The 2018 Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines All-Star teams were picked from a group of 74 boys and girls aged 10 to 14 years old from Regional Selection Camps in Baguio, Cebu, Davao, and Manila, and the Alaska Power Camp earlier this year.

The Jr. NBA – the league’s global youth basketball participation program for boys and girls – teaches fundamental skills, builds character and promotes active lifestyle.

After three days of world-class basketball instruction, the eight Jr. NBA and eight Jr. WNBA All-Star players from the Philippines will be rewarded with an overseas NBA experience along with fellow Jr. NBA All-Star players from Southeast Asia later this year./PN
