BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said it is strictly enforcing an ordinance regulating riding in tandem on motorcycles.
City Ordinance 832, series of 2017 states that it shall be unlawful for any driver and their back rider to ride in tandem on a motorcycle on any given day from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Thirty violators of the ordinance have been arrested from June 16 to 29, the BCPO stated in its accomplishment report, a copy of which was furnished to the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Back riders constrained to ride a motorcycle due to an emergency situation are exempted but their condition shall be verified by the apprehending officer on duty, the ordinance said.
In addition, back riders who travel at night in relation to their jobs – call center agents, security officers, or others in a similar line of work – are exempted, too, provided they present a valid identification document.
The BCPO, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office and the City Legal Office are the designated enforcers.
A driver violating the ordinance faces a fine of P300 and/or imprisonment for three days, the ordinance stated.
An erring back rider, on the other hand, may be fined with P200 and/or imprisoned for two days./PN
