BACOLOD City — Three hundred voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) here have been crossed out from the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) list this year.
They have already reached 18 years old, City Election Officer Mavil Majarucon–Sia said, leaving the city with 4,700 registered SK voters.
But the number may still increase with the SK voters’ registration for youths aged 15 to 17 years old on Sept. 20 to 29.
Sia clarified that the registration of those who signed up on July 22 to 31 last year is still valid.
Those who already reached 18 years old now need to register as regular voters, the city election officer said.
Fourteen-year-olds who would reach 15 by the time of the SK election on Feb. 21 next year are qualified for registration.
Registrants must bring with them copies of their birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or any school document or identification card that would prove that they are of the right age, Sia said.
Sia hopes that the stampede during the SK voters’ registration at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports (BAYS) Center last year will not happen again this year.
Last year, “coordinators” and “facilitators” brought hordes of registrants to the BAYS Center, said Sia.
Some of the registrants, she said, stayed overnight outside the registration center just to be accommodated.
Registration of regular voters is ongoing, Sia said./PN
