ILOILO – More than 300 residents of Concepcion town received free medical services and health education during a Family Health and Nutrition Fair jointly organized by the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Department of Health (DOH), and the Concepcion Primary Care Facility.
The one-day event brought essential health services closer to the community, ranging from maternal care and family planning to immunization and oral health.
It also highlighted Konsulta profiling, giving residents their first patient encounter and tailored health assessments.
A major feature was the Adolescent Health and Development Program lecture series, which tackled mental health, nutrition, reproductive health, and physical activity. Organizers said the goal was to equip young people with the knowledge to make better health decisions.
Family planning services for women of reproductive age were also offered, alongside men’s health lectures that focused on preventing lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular ailments. Children benefited from free dental check-ups, oral hygiene education, and school-based immunizations.
Maternal health was a key focus, with free ultrasounds, HIV and syphilis testing, and oral health services made available. Dr. Mee Silao, OB-Sonologist from Western Visayas Sanitarium, spearheaded the ultrasound services, ensuring pregnant mothers received accessible and timely prenatal care.
“The turnout shows the strong demand for accessible health services at the grassroots,” the PHO said in a statement, adding that the fair also promoted the importance of nutrition and balanced diets in disease prevention.
