ILOILO City – A total of 383,117 learners in Western Visayas enrolled early for school year 2023-2024.
Early registration for Kindergarten, grades 1, 7 and 11 started on May 10 and closed on June 9.
“Grabe ang aton kampanya during sang time sang early registration so waay na gid man kita sang gina-look forward nga may ma-late pa,” said Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 information officer Hernani Escullar Jr.
But parents or guardians may still enroll their children during the enrollment period even if they haven’t pre-registered, said Escullar in an interview with Panay News on Tuesday morning, June 13.
“It doesn’t mean nga kon wala sia nakapa-early register indi sia makapa-enroll. Gina-emphasize naton nga puede gihapon sila makapa-enroll,” he added.
According to Escullar, parents and guardians prefer face-to-face early registration.
Here is the breakdown of the 383,117 learners who pre-registered per Schools Division Office:

* Kabankalan City – 9,834
* La Carlota City – 3,512

Escullar said the early registration is to make necessary preparations and adjustments to plans, such as providing learners with enough learning resources.
For incoming Grades 2, 6, 8, 10, and 12 learners from public schools, meanwhile, Escullar said that “they are considered pre-registered, thus they do not need to participate in the early registration.
However, private schools are encouraged to conduct their respective early registration activities in the same timeframe.
Under the department order, Vice Presdent and DepED chief Sarah Duterte-Carpio mandates the following:
* All public elementary and secondary schools shall update or encode daily in the Early Registration facility in the Learner Information System using the school head or school administrator account. Public elementary and secondary schools shall use print or electronic copies of the Basic Education Enrollment form to ensure that necessary information in registering incoming Kindergarten and Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners and other data, is properly captured.
* Preferably, the conduct of the early registration shall be done through face-to-face transactions with the schools. However, the schools may continue to implement other options or means of collecting early registration forms.
* Schools division superintendents and school heads shall facilitate the conduct of advocacy campaigns within their respective jurisdictions to inform the general public and encourage out-of-school children and parents/guardians of prospective learners to participate in the early registration for the SY 2023-2024 by posting relevant materials in conspicuous places and making announcements on local television and radio broadcasting stations./PN
