3rd rate

I’VE ALWAYS thought that students at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) are discerning and level-headed. It turned out they’re just a third-rate wannabe University of the Philippines (UP). Oh well, we all make mistakes sometimes.

A supposed survey conducted by the Forum Dimensions, the student publication of the university, came out with Leni Robredo topping the list for presidential candidates. A closer look shows that the survey had only 80 respondents, so it would be safe to assume that the survey was just conducted among likeminded students i.e. the usual “wokes” and wannabe or pseudo activists.

That “survey” had all the symptoms of the “Defend UPLB” stunt wherein the members of that group came out in social and mainstream media claiming they have been receiving “death threats” for opposing the now Anti-Terrorism Law. Well, it turned out that the “death threats” were sent from a mobile phone owned by one of the leaders of that “Defend UPLB” group. Not very creative to say the least but indeed self-serving just like that “survey” of the Forum Dimensions. At least Leni Robredo can take comfort with the fact that 80 students from WVSU will vote for her as president.

I have no problem with Leni Robredo running for any position she wants, even running the marathon. It’s a free country after all and we all can make fools of ourselves. Or not. Of course, your capacity as a leader is not determined by your gender, rather by your competence.

Feb. 25 was a holiday and not that I’m complaining. But if there was any holiday that we need to cancel, this is it. Why are we celebrating and spending government resources commemorating the day oligarchs took control of the government?

At best it was not a “bloodless revolution”. It was a takeover of government from a “strong man” to the oligarchs. A power grab. Nothing sacred or heroic about that.

People Power is dead and buried along with the remains of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The fact that nobody cared nor even came to the EDSA People Power Monument to celebrate the most sacred day of the “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon” shows that the people have “woke up” and seen the deceit and lies that were rammed down our throats for the last 30 years.

Tama na. Sobra na. Ninoy Aquino was not a hero. Cory Aquino was not a saint. And Noynoy Aquino was a nincompoop.

Stupidity is one of the “endearing” traits besides racism of the white race. Take note, they believe hook line and sinker the lies propagated by a certain Maria Ressa.

Has she won the Nobel Peace Prize already? There are more awards awaiting her. There’s The Oscars, The Grammy, and an Olympic gold medal, just to name a few.

Meanwhile, it’s really plain common sense you don’t mix bikers with joggers, runners and walkers in a small confined area such as the Esplanade 1 and 2 as accidents are bound to happen.

The entire Esplanade 1 and 2 are about – give or take – five kilometers; really quite short for a serious biker and quite narrow in some areas. You’d have to negotiate your bike very carefully to avoid the joggers and the walkers, particularly the senior citizens.

There are enough bike lanes in the city, particularly along the Diversion Road and the Esplanade along Muelle Loney which can accommodate bikers so why insist on riding your bike into the Esplanade 1 and 2?

The surface of the Esplanade 1 and 2 which is uneven bricks is not even good for the serious runner as it might cause you to slip or twist your ankle. Likewise for the biker; the same uneven bricks might also cause your tires to misalign, resulting in an accident.

At best, the Esplanade 1 and 2 are suitable just for walking and leisure jogging, not for the serious runner or biker.

“I Am Iloilo City” has enough wide open spaces and bike lanes for the serious runner and biker. Besides, the serious biker will always prefer the long rides going out of the city or the mountain trails in Guimaras, likewise for the serious runner.

Again, why insist on riding your bike into the narrow, confined, sometimes full-of-people Esplanade 1 and 2 and make childish tantrums when you were not allowed to go in?/PN
