ILOILO City – The yearly Dinagyang food festival on Delgado Street, City Proper starts today. Aside from good food, diners will also be treated to live band entertainment.

The Iloilo Hotels Restaurants and Resorts Association (IHRRA) is managing the food festival which will run until Jan. 27.

According to Happy Abenir, past president of IHRRA, at least 25 members confirmed their participation.

Abenir assured Dinagyang food festival patrons they would be “safe, happy and secure.”

Participating IHRRA members agreed to have a fixed tariff on drinks, thus the uniformity of prices.

“Yung prices of pagkain naman we cannot control. These depend on the overall head cost of each restaurant. But as much as possible we try to keep the prices competitive as possible,” said Abenir.

Expect restaurants to outdo one another by introducing something new in their menu although “kun ano ang specialty nila sa ila stores, amo man na ang ila i-promote para ang mga bisita nga indi taga diri can also try Ilonggo dishes,” said Abenir.

Abenir, however, said best sellers as in past Dinagyang food festivals were expected to be grilled food and fresh seafood.

Abenir also said food handlers have been ensured to be clean and healthy.

“We required health cards for employees and sanitation permits. This is standard operating procedure,” Abenir stressed.

“By Monday (Jan. 28) at 1:30 a.m. or 2 a.m. we would start clearing the food festival area. Delgado Street would be cleaned,” said Abenir./PN
