4 Handuman jail inmates positive for measles

BACOLOD City – Four inmates of the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology (BJMP) – Handuman District Jail in Barangay Handumanan were diagnosed with measles, said the City Health Office (CHO).

It reported earlier that the facility recorded 25 measles cases and 13 sore eyes cases.

Handumanan warden Jail Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano said the 25 sick inmates have been isolated to prevent other inmates from getting infected. The 13 others were receiving continuous medication.

According to CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head Grace Tan, of the 25 inmates, only five were taken samples for tested.

The results showed four positive of measles but these inmates were now fine, said Tan.

All inmates in isolation have also recovered, she added.

Last month, Miciano said the CHO vaccinated measles-rubella to 441 male inmates while the 25 were not, because the sick were not allowed to be immunized.

This was after inmates started getting sick and exhibiting rashes in their bodies, symptoms of measles./PN
