ILOILO – With barely three months left before its targeted opening and the southbound section only 40 percent complete, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 is accelerating construction of the Aganan flyover in Pavia, Iloilo to make the lanes passable to motorists by December 2026.
The project contractor, International Builders Corporation (IBC), has deployed additional workers and equipment as DPWH-6 pushes to meet the December deadline despite substantial work still remaining on the southbound portion.
DPWH-6 said the remaining works include the concreting of eight spans of deck slabs, construction of the southbound approaches, and installation of steel railings from Pier 5 to Abutment A.
Preparations are also underway for the installation of deck slabs on both the southbound and northbound sections.
Despite the southbound lanes being only 40 percent complete, DPWH-6 maintained that they could be opened by December through measures such as deploying additional manpower and equipment.
Meanwhile, work on the northbound section is also progressing, with its opening targeted for March 2027.
“Yes, the north bound lane preparation is now ongoing for deck slab and the completion is March 2027,” DPWH-6 stated in a statement provided to Panay News.
The entire flyover project, covering both the southbound and northbound lanes, has reached 83.52 percent completion.
DPWH-6 said P938,024,287.20 has already been spent or allocated for the project, including funds provided for this year.
MORE ROAD CLOSURES
As construction intensifies, DPWH-6 again urged motorists to use designated alternate routes as temporary road closures are implemented at the intersection of Felix Gorriceta Avenue in Barangay Aganan.
The closures are scheduled on September 19-20, September 26-27, and October 10-11, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow the installation and launching of prestressed concrete girders.
Motorists coming from Sta. Barbara and Pavia towns and heading to Iloilo City may turn left toward Pavia at Carlitos, pass through Pavia Plaza, Barangay Anilao and Barangay Tacas, and proceed through Quintin Salas to Jaro Plaza.
Another option is to follow the same route to Barangay Tacas, turn right onto Circumferential Road, and proceed through the Ungka Flyover intersection toward Jaro Plaza.
Motorists traveling from Sta. Barbara to Iloilo City may also use Taft Street in Sta. Barbara and pass through Barangays Agutayan, Cabugao Norte, Tigum, Pagsangaan and Tacas before proceeding through Quintin Salas to Jaro Plaza.
Those traveling from Sta. Barbara to San Miguel may take Taft Street through Agutayan, Cabugao Norte, Tigum, Pagsangaan and Tacas before turning right onto Circumferential Road.
Motorists from San Miguel bound for Sta. Barbara may travel through Jibao-an and Circumferential Road, turn left toward Tacas, and pass through Pagsangaan, Tigum, Cabugao Norte and Agutayan before reaching Sta. Barbara.
For motorists traveling from Iloilo City to Sta. Barbara and Pavia, DPWH-6 recommended passing through Jaro Plaza and the Ungka Flyover, turning right onto Circumferential Road and then left toward Tacas before proceeding through Pagsangaan, Tigum, Cabugao Norte and Agutayan to Sta. Barbara.
Another option is to take Jaro Plaza and the Ungka Flyover, turn right onto Circumferential Road, proceed to Tacas, then turn left toward Anilao and Pavia poblacion before continuing to Sta. Barbara./PN
