KALIBO, Aklan – The National Housing Authority (NHA) is planning to construct housing units in Malay, Aklan for victims of the 2013 super typhoon “Yolanda.”
NHA-Iloilo project officer-in-charge Ma. Luz Ysatam presented before the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Malay their plan to build the housing units in the town.
Ysatam wanted the SB to give Mayor Ceciron Cawaling the authority to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the NHA for the housing unit construction project worth P116 million.
Each unit will cost P290,000 – for land acquisition and house development – for 402 families.
The beneficiaries will be chosen based on the list in the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery, Ysatam said.
Each beneficiary is entitled to a housing unit built on a 40-square-meter lot.
Vice Mayor Abram Sualog urged the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to validate the actual number of beneficiaries in Malay.
Ysatam said the housing project under the Yolanda core shelter assistance program will end this year.
If not released to the Malay local government, the program’s fund will be reverted to the Department of Budget and Management.
The reverted fund will be used for the rehabilitation of Marawi City, Ysatam said. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
