ILOILO City – From the beginning of this year up to Feb. 19, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Region 6 already recorded 48 fire incidents.
There were 22 incidents in January and 26 so far this month.
The BFP bared this figures as it prepares to mark the Fire Prevention Month this March.
According to the bureau, 20 of the incidents were structural fires, two were grass fires, three were rubbish fires, 21 were electric pole fires, and one was a vehicular fire.
This city’s fire marshal, Jerry Candido, stressed the importance of marking the Fire Prevention Month. This could raise public awareness on fire safety, he said.
On March 1, there will be a “Walk for a Fire-free and a Fire-safe Nation” to be participated by firefighters, volunteers, public servants, non-government organizations, students, teachers and other professionals.
On March 2, there will be five minutes of blowing of horns of all firefighting apparatuses of all BFP stations.
Candido said there will be fire safety awareness campaigns in every barangay, lectures and distribution of information materials on fire safety, and testing of fire hydrants.
“There will also be house-to-house fire safety information campaign,” he added.
Fire trucks will also be roaming in communities and, through public address system, broadcast fire safety reminders.
