ILOILO City – Police arrested five people allegedly engaged in illegal gambling in Zone 2, Barangay San Juan, Molo district.
They were playing the card game pusoy, a police report showed.
Those arrested were all residents of the village:
* Niño John Jorque, 35
* Jumel Eustaquio, 35
* Jonathan Lacson, 42
* Mary Rose Andrade, 31
* Stella Puzon, 40
Acting on a tip, officers went to the barangay and caught them playing the card game at around 11 p.m. on March 31, the police report stated.
Upon seeing the police, a certain Mark Andrade, 35, ran to a swampy area and fired a gun. The rest of the players scampered but the five were cornered and arrested, the report stated.
Those caught face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling, stated the police report./PN
