535 Aklan student athletes join WVRAA

KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan sent more than 500 qualified student athletes in the highly-anticipated 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet.

The Province and Schools Division of Negros Occidental and Schools Division of Bacolod City are hosting the biggest grassroots regional competition from May 2 to 7.

WVRAA is the premier multi-sports event in the region for the best elementary and secondary student athletes, which is anchored on this year’s theme “2024 WVRAA Meet: Nurturing Champions for the World”.

The young athletes from the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Guimaras, Antique, and Negros Occidental will compete in various sports disciplines and paragames.

The sporting events are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard, boxing, chess, dancesport, football, futsal, gymnastic, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball girls, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling and wushu.

There are 496 student-athletes from Aklan who will be joining the competition in the elementary and secondary levels, and 39 differently-abled athletes for paragames athletics, bocce, goal ball, and swimming events.

Bulk of the athletes are from Kalibo I and Kalibo II school districts after dominating the Aklan Provincial Athletic Meet.  

Mabini Elementary School and Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School in Bacolod City will be used as billeting quarters for athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, chaperons and officials from Aklan./PN
