BACOLOD City – A total of 601 barangays in Negros Occidental received P200,000 each under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program (BBMP) during a ceremonial distribution held Friday, July 31, at the Panaad Stadium in this city.
Cabinet Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., representing the Office of the President, led the distribution of assistance together with Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and other local officials.
Abalos said the program reflects President Marcos’ commitment to empowering local government units by ensuring that every barangay receives direct support for community development.
“Through the President’s program, we are strengthening every local government unit so that communities across the country will benefit,” Abalos said.
Aside from the financial assistance, sacks of rice were also distributed to barangay representatives during the event.
Lacson thanked President Marcos for extending assistance to all barangays in the province, saying the program would help address local needs while creating more opportunities for students to pursue higher education.
Under the BBMP, each barangay received P200,000 sourced from the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund.
Of the amount, P100,000 is allotted for scholarships for five qualified college students from each barangay, with each scholar receiving P20,000 in educational assistance.
The remaining P100,000 is intended for barangay priority projects, allowing local governments to fund community-based development initiatives based on their identified needs.
In Negros Occidental, the program will provide scholarship assistance to 3,005 students from the province’s 601 barangays.
Launched in 2026, the BBMP is a flagship initiative of the Marcos administration aimed at strengthening barangay governance, supporting local development projects, expanding access to higher education, and ensuring that government assistance reaches communities directly./PN
